I like to travel a lot. Travelling and photography are my best hobbies. Whenever I get time, i try to go a new place. My plan is to travel whole Bangladesh. I want to make a large album of Beautiful Bangladesh. Some days ago, i have traveled in Ratargul swamp forest. It is in Shylhet. Now I like to share about Ratargul swamp forest and its pictures.

Ratargul Swamp Forest is a freshwater swamp forest located in Sylhet, Bangladesh. It is the only swamp forest located in Bangladesh and one of the few freshwater swamp forests in the world. The forest is naturally conserved under the Department of Forestry, Govt. of Bangladesh.

The evergreen forest is situated by the river Goain and linked with the cannel Chengir Khal. The water is not salty like sundarban, and part of the trees use to be under the water. Moreover, the trees from that forest are habituated in such a ways that they can even survive in water.

In sundarban, the water level is controlled by the high and low tides from the river, ocean. But in Ratargul the water is only controlled by the rainy season. At other seasons, there will be hardly any water inside the forest. Those rainy season waters are in fact overflowed water from haor and rivers.

Most of the trees of this forest are grow here are Pongamia pinnata (Koroch tree). The forest goes under 20-30 feet water at rainy season. Rest of the year the water level is about 10 feet deep. It’s a good source of different local fish. It’s the habitat of different snakes, monkeys, lizards, insects & birds. Some part of the forest gets so narrow that we cannot go by boat. Actually it seemed to like Amazon forest there. We were really enjoying this tour so much.  here is some beautiful pictures of Ratargul swamp forest.
